Maier Named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week

SAN LUIS OBISPO – After tossing a complete-game, one-hitter during a 1-0 victory against UC Davis (May 6) and combing with senior Krystyna Allman for a second one-hit win against the Aggies (May 7), Cal Poly softball freshman righthander Paige Maier was named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
After allowing two hits during the final two innings of Cal Poly's May 6 series opener against UC Davis – a 5-0 loss – Maier returned in game No. 2, striking out four and conceding just a fifth-inning hit as the Mustangs edged the Aggies, 1-0.
During Cal Poly's May 7 series and regular season home finale, Maier took over for Allman to open the fourth with the matchup tied, 2-2. She allowed just one baserunner and no hits to close the game and Cal Poly scored in the fourth and sixth innings to secure a 4-2 victory.
For the three-game series, Maier – who improved to 6-2 with the pair of victories – posted a 0.00 ERA in 13.0 innings while limiting UC Davis hitters to .071 batting average.
Monday's honor was the first of Maier's career.
As a program, Cal Poly closes its 48-game season when visiting UC San Diego for a three-game, May 13-14 series. Action gets underway with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, May 13.
