Four Mustangs Earn All-Big West Conference Softball Honors

SAN LUIS OBISPO – With left fielder Jessica Clements collecting the Cal Poly softball program's first Big West Conference Freshman Field Player of the Year honor in 15 seasons, four Mustangs earned All-Big West praise for the 2022 season on Wednesday afternoon.Clements was also named to the All-Big West first team alongside senior shortstop Maddie Amos and the Big West All-Freshman Team, sharing selection with righthander Paige Maier. Mustang senior center fielder Noellah Ramos earned a spot on the All-Big West second team.
The Big West's leading hitter and ranked 68th among NCAA Division I players with a .396 (63-for-159) batting average, Clements (above, left) recorded the sixth highest single season mark in program history. Also ranked second among Big West players with 63 hits and fourth with 36 runs – both the seventh highest single season totals in program history – Clements hit safely 36 times in 2022 and led Cal Poly with 18 multi-hit games, collecting a career best four hits on four occasions. A two-time Big West Freshman Player of the Week honoree this season, Clements was named as one of 25 finalists for the NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year honor on April 28.
Clements is the first Mustang to earn Big West Freshman Field Player of the Year honors since first baseman Krysten Cary in 2007.Amos (above, right), named to the All-Big West second team a season ago, finished the regular season ranked second among conference players with 43 RBI, third with 88 total bases, fourth with seven homers, fifth with a .579 slugging percentage, sixth with 11 doubles and ninth with a .355 (54-for-152) batting average. The 43-RBI total from Amos ranks as the third highest single season total in program history.
Producer of 14 multi-hit games (including a four-hit performance at Hawai'i on April 8) and a team leading nine multi-RBI games (including a program record eight after matching an NCAA single game record with two grand slams at CSU Bakersfield on April 16), Amos was a three-time Big West Field Player of the Week honoree during the regular season. Ranked 16th in program history with a .316 (127-for-402) career batting average, Amos started 138 of a possible 155 games during her career and all 83 since the start of the 2021 season.
Ramos (bottom, left), a starter in 40 of 48 games, finished second among Big West players with five triples and led Cal Poly with a .364 batting average in Big West play. A starter in 194 of a possible 208 games since her 2018 freshman season, Ramos completed her career ranked eighth in program history with nine triples, ninth with 28 sacrifice hits and 13th with 88 runs, 20 steals and 57 walks.
Maier (bottom, right) finished 6-3 in the circle during her first collegiate season and claimed five of Cal Poly's 14 Big West victories. The May 9 Big West Pitcher of the Week honoree, Maier struck out a career high six CSU Bakersfield hitters as Cal Poly completed a three-game sweep on April 16. She also tossed a complete-game, one-hitter during Cal Poly's May 7 series finale victory against UC Davis.
