Mustangs Fall in Regular Season Finale at UC San Diego

Contributing to Cal Poly's opening run on Saturday, senior shortstop Maddie Amos finished 1-for-4 at the plate and, with a .318 four-year batting average, finished her career ranked 12th in program history.
Meanwhile, freshman left fielder Jessica Clements went 0-for-3 Saturday, missing becoming the first Mustang to hit .400 in 15 years by a single hit. Her .396 mark for the year, however, ranks as the sixth highest batting average in Cal Poly single season history.
During Saturday's matchup, Cal Poly (19-29, 14-13) required just three batters to open the scoring as Maddie Amos followed a one-out base hit from senior center fielder Noellah Ramos with an RBI single. After sophomore right fielder Juju Sargent reached on a UC San Diego error and senior designated player Lily Amos added another single to load the bases, sophomore first baseman Hailey Prahm delivered a two-run base hit to hand Cal Poly the 3-0 advantage.
UC San Diego (27-26, 15-12), however, overtook Cal Poly at the first opportunity as four different Tritons enjoyed run-scoring hits in the bottom of the first.
Scoreless to complete the second and third innings, UC San Diego furthered its lead to 9-3 with a five-run, fourth inning as third baseman Keila Bosinger, catcher Clarissa Reynoso and pinch hitter Marissa Hassis becoming the fifth, sixth and seventh different Tritons with RBI singles while right fielder Mikaila Pancino delivered a two-run base hit.
Cal Poly, meanwhile, stranded single runners in both the top of the fifth and sixth before UC San Diego added its final run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Mustangs completed the scoring in the top of the seventh as a two-out single from sophomore second baseman Xiara Diaz plated Sargent for Cal Poly's final run of the season.
