Clements Named to NFCA National Freshman of the Year Top 25 List

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Jessica Clements became the Cal Poly softball program's first Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year honoree in eight years Thursday morning with the Mustang left fielder named as one of 25 standouts to the 2022 field.
The Big West Conference's leader with a .405 (53-for-131) batting average and ranked 63rd among NCAA Division I players, Clements is Cal Poly's first NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year selection since righthander Sierra Hyland in 2014.
Having hit safely 29 times and Cal Poly's leader with 16 multi-hit games – including four, four-hit outings – Clements also ranks second among Big West players with 53 hits and fourth with 32 runs. One of four Mustangs to start all 39 games this season, Clements has reached base in 11 straight matchups.
Clements was one of only two Big West Conference players selected alongside UC San Diego righthander Jada Cecil.
Winners of 10 of its last 12 games, fourth place Cal Poly (16-23, 11-7) visits Big West leader Cal State Fullerton (31-15, 15-3) for a three-game, April 30-May 1 series. Action opens with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 30.
