Cal Poly Softball’s StrikeOut Cancer Day Returns Saturday
4/21/2022 2:37:00 PM | Softball
SAN LUIS OBISPO – With all proceeds benefitting the Hearst Cancer Resource Center at nearby French Hospital, the Cal Poly softball program's annual NFCA StrikeOut Cancer Day returns after a three-year hiatus on Saturday, April 23 as the Mustangs host Long Beach State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Bob Janssen Field.
The Cal Poly program will be selling commemorative t-shirts for $20 during Saturday's doubleheader alongside raffling items – including curated gift baskets. A current list of raffle items is available via Cal Poly's Instagram page HERE.
The program will also host a chuck-a-ball throw for a round of golf for four and two carts at the Paso Robles golf Club. Donations for the Hearst Cancer Resource Center will also be accepted.
Fans can pre-purchase raffle tickets, ball throw tickets and t-shirts HERE.
Since beginning the StrikeOut Cancer Day initiative, NFCA member programs have raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer. In addition to the money raised, the initiative has provided a platform to raise awareness for breast cancer as well as support for women's cancer research.
The Cal Poly program, which hosted its first StrikeOut Cancer Day in 2007, raised $2,208 for the Hearst Cancer Resource Center during its last event in 2019 (the 2020 event was cancelled and 2021 event suspended). During the previous six events, Cal Poly has totaled $21,900 for the Hearst Cancer Resource Center.
The Hearst Cancer Resource Center is a specialized resource in San Luis Obispo County for individuals living with cancer and their families at French Hospital. The HCRC's goal is to help those with cancer learn about the disease, recognize opportunity for improved health and build a personal support system and sense of extended family.
