SAN LUIS OBISPO – After matching an NCAA all-time single game record with two grand slams in the Cal Poly softball program's April 16 victory at CSU Bakersfield and setting a new program record with eight RBI, senior shortstop Maddie Amos was named both Big West Conference Player of the Week and Cal Poly Mechanics Bank Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday.
During Cal Poly's three-game, April 15-16 road sweep of CSU Bakersfield, Amos batted .455 (5-for-11) with 13 total bases while hitting safely during the series. In the program's 14-2 victory to complete the sweep, Amos hit grand slams in the third and fourth innings. Aside from matching the NCAA record for single game grand slams – last achieved by Texas Tech's Karli Hamilton in 2021 – Amos matched a Big West record with her eight RBI. The eight-RBI effort tied five other players for the highest total by a Division I player this season.
For the season, Amos improved her batting average to a Big West leading .405 (47-for-116) mark. Also the Big West leader with 38 RBI, 79 total bases and a .681 slugging percentage, Amos ranks second with 47 hits and seven homers.
Amos is now a three-time Big West Player of the Week honoree this season.
Winners of eight straight, Cal Poly (14-21, 9-6) returns home to host Fresno State in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, April 19. First pitch from Bob Janssen Field is 3:30 p.m.
