Parrish Tied for Fifth Place After Two Rounds of Cal Poly Invitational

FIRST-DAY RESULTS
CARMEL BY THE SEA, Calif. -- Cal Poly sophomore Jackson Parrish carded rounds of 70 and 68 and is tied for fifth place entering Tuesday's final round of the inaugural Cal Poly Invitational at The Preserve, located in the hills several miles inland and south of Carmel.
Parrish, the transfer from Colorado School of Mines, is just two strokes off the pace after notching five birdies and three bogeys in the morning round and eight birdies, one bogey and a triple-bogey in the afternoon round for a six-under-par 138 aggregate on the 7,034-yard, par-72 course.
Owen Avrit, a graduate of Arroyo Grande High School currently playing for Oregon, and Shubham Jaglan of South Florida share the lead with eight-under-par 136 totals. Carson Barry of Oregon State and Adam Wallin of Ohio State are tied for third at seven under par while Parrish is tied for fifth with four other golfers.
Cal Poly's Austin Liu checked in with a 74 and 72 for a 146 total and 46th place while Joey Zambri added a 77 and 72 for a 149 aggregate and 61st place. Also scoring for the Mustangs were Baron Szeto with a 76 and 80 for a 156 total and 70th place and Ross Laird with a 75 and 84 for a 159 total and 71st place.
Three other Mustangs are competing as individuals in the two-day, 13-team, 54-hole tournament that attracted five teams ranked in the Top 50 by Golfstat.com.
Ben Quick is tied for 39th place with a 75 and 70 for a 145 total, Parker Mapes is tied for 63rd place after posting a 76 and 74 and Drew Kim is 69th following a 76 and 77. Also competing are No. 24 Oregon and No. 33 Washington, which share fourth place.
No. 50 Marquette held the early lead before No. 46 Northwestern and No. 36 Ohio State made their moves. Northwestern leads the team standings with a 26-under-par 550 total, seven shots ahead of Ohio State. Marquette is third at 566.
Parrish is second in par-4 scoring at five under par and is one back of Jaglan in total birdies with 13. There were a dozen eagles over 36 holes Monday, Northwestern's James Imai carding three of them. Imai posted a 66 in the afternoon round.
Final round begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
