Mustangs Fall at No. 15 Loyola Marymount Monday, 1-0
9/20/2021 9:10:00 PM | Men's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – Facing its second successive ranked opponent, the Cal Poly men's soccer program forced Loyola Marymount goalkeeper Jacob Jackson into three saves Monday evening, but the Mustangs failed to find the equalizer to Lions midfielder Noel Caliskan's 56th-minute goal and dropped a 1-0 decision at Sullivan Field.
Cal Poly junior goalkeeper Carlos Arce-Hurtado faced 14 Loyola Marymount shot attempts – only two of which landed on frame as the Lions found the decisive goal 11 minutes after the break.
Cal Poly placed three of its four first-half shot attempts on target, but the Mustangs were turned away in the third (Andrew Forth, above), 15th (Daniel Normann) and 32nd (Nick Giacalone) minutes.
Drawn heading into the break, Loyola Marymount broke the deadlock with its first shot on target of the evening as Caliskan – supported by an assist from defender Nick Dauchot – fired the Lions into the 56th-minute lead.
Arce-Hurtado recorded an 86th-minute save, but Cal Poly was limited to just five second-half shots.
Cal Poly concludes Big West preparations when visiting rival UC Santa Barbara for a Saturday, Sept. 25, non-conference matchup. Kickoff from Harder Stadium is 7 p.m.
