Cal Poly Edged in Saturday Exhibition at UCLA, 1-0

LOS ANGELES – UCLA substitute forward Ollie de Visser's goal 91 seconds after the break stood as the difference Saturday evening as the Cal Poly men's soccer program fell to the Bruins in an exhibition at Wallis Annenberg Stadium, 1-0.
Junior goalkeeper Carlos Arce-Hurtado recorded four saves for Cal Poly, which limited UCLA to just one shot attempt during the first half. The Bruins, however, fired off seven in the second half with Arce-Hurtado making three saves to keep Cal Poly's deficit at a goal.
Cal Poly, which opened its 2021 training camp on Aug. 10, produced five shot attempts – but placed just one on frame with freshman forward Jackson Kestler turned away by UCLA starting goalkeeper Justin Garces in the 70th.
Cal Poly enjoyed one final chance to tie the match in the 88th minute, but a header from senior forward Manny Perez (above) was whistled offside.
Cal Poly completes preparations for the 2021 regular season when hosting Division II Fresno Pacific for a Tuesday, Aug. 24 exhibition. Kickoff from Alex G. Spanos Stadium is 7 p.m.
