Eastern Washington Defeats Cal Poly 62-10 in Big Sky Game

CHENEY, Wash. -- Eric Barriere and Gunner Talkington combined to throw five touchdown passes and Tamarick rushed for two more as Eastern Washington defeated Cal Poly 62-10 in a Big Sky Conference football game Saturday afternoon at Roos Field.
Barriere completed 23 of 33 passes for 284 yards, including scoring strikes of zero yards to Dennis Merritt, eight yards to Efton Chism and three yards to Dylan Ingram. The Merritt catch was a recovery of a fumble after Andrew Boston caught a 27-yarder and fumbled the ball at the goalline.
Talkington connected with Freddie Robertson on a 12-yard scoring pass to open the game and with Michael Taras on an 18-yarder for the final touchdown of the game.
Cal Poly (0-3) scored on a five-yard pass from Hunter Raquet to Lepi Lataimua late in the first quarter and a 39-yard field goal y Colton Theaker midway through the final period.
Raquet completed eight of 15 passes for 53 yards and one score while Jalen Hamler connected on two of four for six yards and an interception. Freshman Zedakiah Centers was Cal Poly's top receiver with five catches for 26 yards.
Chuby Dunu rushed for 63 yards on 13 carries, Lataimua finished with 57 yards on 13 trips and Raquet added 54 yards on 16 carries.
Freshman Xavier Oliphant returned an interception 53 yards early in the second quarter while Matt Shotwell and Aaron Cooper were Cal Poly's top tacklers with 14 and 12, respectively.
Eastern Washington (3-1) amassed 683 yards of total offense -- 267 on the ground and 416 more through the air -- while Cal Poly accumulated 238 total yards.
The Eagles had the ball four more minutes than the Mustangs.
Cal Poly concludes a three-game road trip next Saturday at Northern Arizona.
