Cal Poly Softball Selected Fifth in Big West Preseason Coaches Poll

COMPLETE BIG WEST POLL RESULTS
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Featuring 17 returning letterwinners from last season's squad, the Cal Poly softball program was predicted for a fifth-place finish in the Big West standings following the Thursday afternoon release of conference preseason coaches poll.
Cal Poly, scheduled to open the 2021 regular season on Friday, Feb. 12 with a 12 noon doubleheader at Loyola Marymount, received 43 points in the poll – one vote shy of fourth-place Hawai'i.
Four-time defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton was selected to repeat a title last won in 2019 after receiving seven of nine first-place votes and 79 total points. Long Beach State finished second in the poll on 63 points and one first-place vote. UC Davis came in third with 52 points.
Following Cal Poly in fifth was UC Riverside (37 points), CSUN (34 and the remaining first-place vote) and UC Santa Barbara (27). UC San Diego, making its Division I debut in 2021, finished ninth with 26 points. Another first-year Big West member, CSU Bakersfield, opted out of the 2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cal Poly finished 10-13 in 2020 after last season was curtailed in mid-March.
