Cal Poly Visits California Baptist Thursday, San Diego Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Resuming action following an eight-day break, the Cal Poly men's basketball program continues a nine-game road trip with its first visit to California Baptist on Thursday, Dec. 2 (7 p.m.) and first trip to San Diego in 26 years on Sunday, Dec. 5 (1 p.m.). Crossing the halfway point of the program's lengthiest road trip in 51 years, Cal Poly snapped a four-game slide with a 67-63 victory against Idaho (Nov. 24) to claim third place at the inaugural SoCal Challenge (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.). Three of Cal Poly's four losses this season have come by seven total points. Beginning the season with five successive victories, California Baptist (6-1) counts No. 8 Texas (Nov. 24) as its lone loss. San Diego (4-4), meanwhile, visits Fresno State on Wednesday, Dec. 1 before hosting Cal Poly.

CAL POLY VERSUS CALIFORNIA BAPTIST: The Mustangs and Lancers have never met as Division I opponents. Cal Poly topped California Baptist at home in the last meeting between the two sides on Nov. 29, 1999 (102-87). Cal Poly owns a 5-0 all-time record against California Baptist dating to the first meeting on Jan. 5, 1983.
CAL POLY VERSUS SAN DIEGO: During the first meeting between Cal Poly and San Diego in 23 seasons last year, the Toreros produced a 70-61 victory on Dec. 16 inside Mott Athletics Center. Cal Poly leads the all-time series (9-8) while San Diego leads the Division I series (4-1) dating to the first matchup between the two programs on Jan. 17, 1958. Sunday's game marks Cal Poly's first visit to San Diego since a 77-73 loss to the Toreros on Feb. 27, 1996.
THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD: Cal Poly's current nine-game road trip is the program's lengthiest since playing 12 successive games away from home during the 1970-71 season (Dec. 12-Jan. 22). Cal Poly also played nine straight road games to open the 1968-69 season.
COLVIN CLIMBS SCORING CHART: Averaging 18.7 points per Cal Poly's last three games, sophomore forward Kyle Colvin now ranks third in the lineup with 11.8 points per evening. Capped by a first collegiate double-double that included career bests for points (28) and rebounds (10) against Idaho (Nov. 24), Colvin has recorded three successive double-digit scoring games. He also enjoyed an 18-point performance against Santa Clara (Nov. 19). After missing last season through injury, Colvin is Cal Poly's second leader shooter at 48.9 (22-for-45) percent and third leading rebounder with 4.5 per game.
KOROMA CONTINUES SCORING WAYS: One of Cal Poly's top two scorers for a second straight season, junior forward Alimamy Koroma – fueled by three double-digit scoring outings, including a career best 23-point effort against Nicholls State (Nov. 22) – ranks eighth among Big West players with 13.5 points per game. Koroma, who added 19 points against Sacramento State (Nov. 15), also leads Cal Poly and ranks fourth among Big West players with a 54.2 (32-for-59) percent field goal mark. With 22 career double-digit scoring games, Koroma is averaging 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per 54 collegiate outings.
TAYLOR ON THE BOARDS: One of only two Mustangs with a double-double thus far after scoring a Cal Poly best 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Sacramento State (Nov. 15), junior guard Trevon Taylor maintains the program's rebounding lead with 5.5 boards per night. Having also grabbed nine rebounds versus Nicholls State (Nov. 22), Taylor – an offseason transfer from James Madison – has started five of six matchups while averaging 5.7 points per game.
THE GRADUATE: Three games in a Cal Poly uniform and three double-digit scoring outings for graduate guard Jacob Davison, who enters Thursday's matchup at California Baptist as the program's leading scorer with 14.3 points per night. An offseason transfer after helping Eastern Washington to the 2021 NCAA Tournament, Davison scored 14 points in his Nov. 9 Cal Poly debut before finishing with a season high 19 points against North Dakota State (Nov. 12). Through 112 collegiate appearances, Davison is averaging 12.6 points per game.
LOOKING AHEAD: Cal Poly plays the first two of its three regular season games outside of California when visiting Portland State (Saturday, Dec. 11) and Portland (Monday, Dec. 13). Both matchups tip at 7 p.m. for Cal Poly, which visits Portland State for the first time in 12 seasons and Portland for just the second time in 17 years.
