SAN LUIS OBISPO – Playing three of its ensuing four matches at home inside Alex G. Spanos Stadium, the Cal Poly men's soccer program hosts Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, Oct. 13 and Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Oct. 16. Both matches kick off at 7 p.m. for Cal Poly (4-5-2, 2-1-1), which enters Wednesday's meeting with Cal State Fullerton sitting second in the Big West Conference standings on seven points – just three behind leader UC Santa Barbara (7-3-3, 3-0-1). Cal State Fullerton (3-7-2, 1-3-0), meanwhile, occupies ninth place alongside CSUN on three points. The top six programs in the 10-team standings qualify for the Big West Tournament (Nov. 3, 6 and 13). Cal Poly faces Cal State Fullerton having allowed only one goal in the last 292 minutes and just two in four Big West matches. Cal State Fullerton, second from bottom among Big West programs with 22 goals allowed, snapped a three-match slide to open conference play with a 1-0 victory versus UC Davis (Oct. 9). With 31 goals scored – 20 more than Cal Poly – UC Santa Barbara ranks sixth among 208 NCAA Division I programs. The lone unbeaten Big West program, UC Santa Barbara edged Cal Poly in the non-conference meeting between the two sides at Harder Stadium, 2-0 (Sept. 25).

The Titans, who lead the Division I series, 20-14-1, then eliminated Cal Poly from the 2019 Big West Tournament at Spanos Stadium with a 2-0 decision on Nov. 6.

The 17 combined matches between Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara during the last nine years are 17 of the 19 highest attended collegiate soccer games in the United States, outranking all but the two matches from the 2019 College Cup semifinals. Since the start of the 2007 season, 281,293 total spectators and an average of 9,700 fans per match have witnessed Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara clash on 29 occasions.
SET TO BOYAL: Four of senior Neil Boyal's five assists have helped fuel Cal Poly victories with the midfielder leading the Big West and now ranked 34th among NCAA Division I players. A 2020 transfer from Louisville, Boyal set up both of Cal Poly's goals (11 minutes apart) during the program's 2-1, come-from-behind victory at Saint Mary's (Aug. 30) before providing assists in Cal Poly's 3-0 win against San Francisco (Sept. 6), 3-2 overtime loss to No. 25 Grand Canyon (Sept. 16) and 1-0 home victory versus CSUN (Oct. 3). Boyal also scored his first Cal Poly goal against Grand Canyon as the Mustangs scored twice in the final three minutes to force overtime. One of four Mustangs to start all 11 games, Boyal ranks second among Cal Poly's outfield players with 92.4 minutes played per outing.
ARCE-HURTADO SHINES IN GOAL: Having conceded just 10 goals from open play through 11 matches, junior goalkeeper Carlos Arce-Hurtado ranks second among Big West players with three shutouts and third with a 0.95 goals against average. Arce-Hurtado enters Wednesday's match having allowed just one goal in his last 292 minutes. With a season high five saves in Cal Poly's Aug. 27 opener at Santa Clara, Arce-Hurtado recorded his first shutout of the year in Cal Poly's 3-0 home win against San Francisco (Sept. 6) before recording successive clean sheets in 1-0 victories versus CSUN (Oct. 3) and UC San Diego (Oct. 6). Through 28 collegiate appearances, Arce-Hurtado – a two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Week selection this season – ranks fourth in program history with a 1.09 career goals against average.

A starter in all 11 matches, Glass has helped the Mustangs to three shutouts this year.
