One of the most prolific swimmers in Cal Poly history, Peter Kline was an NCAA Division I Mid-Major All-American in 2011 and a four-time First Team All-Conference honoree.
As a swimmer with the Mustangs from 2007-11, Kline set school records in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard IM, 400-yard IM, 400-yard freestyle relay, 800-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard medley relay, and 400-yard medley relay. He still owns four of those school records in the 200 back (1:43.55), 200 IM (1:46.89) and 400 IM (3:45.91), as well as his 2010 400 medley relay team whose time of 3:15.45 has still yet to be broken.
The Fresno, Calif., native qualified for two NCAA Championships during his time at Cal Poly in 2010 and 2011 and is one of only two Mustang men’s swimmers to qualify for multiple NCAA Division I Championships since the university elevated to Division I in 1994.
Kline competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, placing 48th in the 400 IM, and in the 2010 U.S. Short Course Nationals, finishing seventh in the 400 IM. He also was the overall winner of the Alcatraz Open Water Swim five times (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2015) and holds four records (100 and 200 IM, 50 and 100 back) in the 30-34 age group of the Pacific Masters program.
Kline currently lives in Santa Rosa, Calif., with his wife Bryn and works for BWX Limited as a strategic sourcing manager for packages and raw materials. In his spare time, he is a hobbyist, makes pizza, salsa and wine and still stays active in swimming, both pool and open water.
