Cal Poly Dispatches Eastern Illinois in Neutral-Site Sweep

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Hitting .500 as a program in a match for the first time in over 15 years, Cal Poly volleyball took down Eastern Illinois in straight sets Friday afternoon at Wilkinson Hall, winning 25-21, 25-10, 25-17.
Eastern Illinois (1-6) hung around in the first set, trading points with Cal Poly (4-3) through the early going before the Mustangs pulled away late for a 25-21 win. The second set was never close as Cal Poly jumped out to a big lead and rolled to a 25-10 finish. The Mustangs kept their foot on the gas in the third, closing out the match with ease at 25-17.
Cal Poly hit a whopping .506 as a team, piling up 45 kills against just five errors on 79 swings. As a huge cog in the operation, Emma Fredrick put together a big afternoon, leading all players with 17 kills on 29 attacks. She committed only two errors and hit .517, adding three digs and three block assists for 18.5 points.
Breklyn Pulling was nearly perfect on her swings, recording six kills on nine attempts with one error (.556) to go with four block assists and eight points. Kendall Beshear added nine kills, two aces and five digs. Charlotte Kelly had one of the most efficient lines of the match, putting down seven kills on eight errorless swings (.875).
Kayla Murdoch chipped in four kills and two block assists, while Elif Hurriyet dished out five assists to go with seven digs and two aces.
Alexis Haury threw up 37 assists and added 10 digs, two aces and one block assist. First year defensive specialist Noe Vanacht led the back row with seven digs and served up two aces.
Across the two-match Indiana Invitational, Fredrick was Cal Poly's clear offensive leader. She finished the weekend with 28 kills over six sets, averaging 4.67 kills per set, and posted a .370 hitting percentage on 54 total attacks.
Fredrick’s 29.5 total points paced the team, and her 18.5-point outing against Eastern Illinois tied for the top single-match scoring performance of the tournament by a Mustang.
Haury paced the offense throughout the trip, handing out 62 assists over six sets for an average of 10.33 per set. She also recorded 16 digs, two aces and one block assist, and her 37 assists against the Panthers were the most by a Cal Poly setter in either match.
Beshear and Murdoch also turned in productive weekends. Beshear totaled 18 kills, seven digs and two aces while hitting .191, and her 20.0 points ranked second on the team behind Fredrick. Murdoch posted 13 kills, 16.0 points and a team-high six total blocks, including four block assists in the match at Indiana.
Kelly chipped in nine kills and 11.5 points, and Pulling added six kills and four block assists in her two sets of work.
Next week, the Mustangs finally return home for some Mott Magic for the first time since November 15, 2025 with the SLO Classic. From September 17-20, Cal Poly welcomes Stanford, Arizona State, and head coach Caroline Walters’ alma mater Santa Clara to Mott Athletics Center for three Mustang home matches and two neutral-sites.
