Before coming to Cal Poly, Marie Lundie-Salyer was a United States Volleyball Association selection, participated in the Junior Olympics from 1974-1977 and was named a tournament MVP.
An All-American setter on Cal Poly's first women's volleyball team, Marie helped shape the school's program into one of the best in the nation. A first-team Southern California Athletic Association selection in 1980 and league MVP in 1981, Lundie was instrumental in putting Cal Poly women's volleyball on the Division I map.
A three-year team captain, Lundie led Cal Poly to a 75-22 record and finished ranked in the top-10 in the nation all three years. In 1981, Marie was selected on the all-tournament teams in the San Diego State and Cal Poly invitationals and was the MVP of the San Jose State Invitational as Cal Poly went 41-8 and finished ranked fifth in the nation.
Today, Marie continues to play volleyball and surf. In 1998, she won the National Championship Beach Volleyball Tournament. She was a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator at French Hospital as a Clinical Case Manager and currently serves as Palliative Care Coordinator. Marie and her husband Dan live in Los Osos and they have two children.
