One of the athletic department's most valuable individuals of the past and present, Don Morris was drafted to Cal Poly's track team after setting records as a college freshman in hurdles.
After graduation from Cal Poly in 1952, Don began a career with the United States Navy, where he spent four years of active duty and served for 40 years in the Navy Reserve, retiring as commander. He returned to Cal Poly after his tour of active duty and earned his master's degree. He went to UCLA later to receive his doctorate in higher education. Don held many positions at Cal Poly, including Personnel Director, Housing Director, Dean of Extended Education and Professor.
Don has served on the Board of Directors of the Cal Poly Alumni Association and on the California State Senior Olympics Board of Directors. He also participates in the State Senior Olympics in 3-on-3 Basketball. Don lives in Pismo Beach with wife Jean. They have three children and five grandchildren. In 2000 Don was honored by Cal Poly's Alumni Association as an Honored Alumni.
Morris was inducted into Cal Poly's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. He and his wife, Jean, have established endowments in UCfE, the Kinesiology Department, and Intercollegiate Athletics.
