One of the top hitters in Cal Poly softball program history, Sara Clarin is in her fourth season as a volunteer assistant with the Mustangs.
Clarin joined Cal Poly following a two-year stint as director of recruiting for the Salinas Storm travel club. As head coach at nearby Cuesta College (2006-09), Clarin led the Cougars to successive postseason appearances (2007-08) and was named 2008 Western State Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the program to a league title. As an assistant coach at Cuesta, Clarin helped the program reach the 2005 California Community College Athletic Association state tournament.
Prior to a full-time college coaching career, Clarin directed nearby Templeton HS to the 2005 California Interscholastic Federation Central Section championship.
A 1997 and 1999 All-Big West Conference first team selection and four-year letterwinning outfielder at Cal Poly (1996-99), Clarin (née Stockton) ranks third in program history in career batting average (.328), hits (194) and triples (11), fourth in doubles (34), fifth in slugging percentage (.453), sixth in runs (92) and total bases (268) and eighth in at-bats (591). Also Cal Poly's single season triples leader with 11 in 1997, Clarin's .407 batting average and 66 hits during the 1999 season still rank second all-time.
Clarin, who earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Cal Poly in 1999 and a master's in kinesiology in 2003, resides in Pismo Beach with her husband, Jeffrey, and children, Branden (11) and Addysen (five).
