Jamar Cain, hired in March 2009 to coach the defensive line atCal Poly, coached the defensive ends at Missouri State for threeseasons (2006-08). Prior to 2006, he held a coaching position onthe grid staff at Ohio University.
Cain is a native of Sacramento and a 2002 graduate of New MexicoState. He is also completing work on a master’s degree fromOhio University, where he served as a graduate assistant coach in2005.
Cain played football for two seasons as a defensive lineman atSacramento City College and was a first-team all-state selectionfor the Panthers. He spent his final two seasons at New MexicoState and was a second-team all-league defensive lineman in the SunBelt Conference.
He spent two seasons as a high school coach and one year as anassistant coach at Sacramento City College and was an assistantcoach during the 2005 season on the staff of head coach FrankSolich at Ohio University. Cain’s coaching responsibilitiesat Ohio were with the defensive ends and he had a number ofadditional duties within the Ohio program.
Cain participated in the National Football League’sminority internship in the summer of 2008 with the ArizonaCardinals and in the summer of 2009 with the Kansas City Chiefs. Healso assisted the Arizona Cardinals during training camp in2008.
Cain, 33, and his wife, DeCarla, have a son, Cosby, 5, and adaughter, Cali, 4.
