SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly men’s tennis is looking to keep rolling in conference against UC Davis Friday at 2 p.m. and UC San Diego Saturday at noon, both games hosted at Ronca Tennis Center.
Last time out, Cal Poly (10-7, 1-0 BW) extended its series win streak against Hawai’i to three straight with a 4-1 win. Sean Ferguson teamed with Raz Haviv for a win before the doubles clincher came from a hard-fought victory at the top spot from the South African duo of Jovan Lubbe and Leo Matthysen.
Lubbe followed that up with an even better performance at No. 1 singles, earning a swift win that put the Mustangs up 2-0 in short order. Aaron Eliscu also stepped up at No. 2 singles for a much needed top-half win that eventually assisted the Mustangs to a 4-1 team win.
The Mustangs take on UC Davis (9-9, 2-1 BW) to start the weekend slate. The Aggies kicked off conference hot, taking 13 of 14 points from UCR and UCSD before a narrow 3-4 loss to UC Irvine.
Cal Poly and UC Davis have traded wins and losses for the past four seasons, splitting the series 2-2 after a dominant Mustang run of six straight wins from 2016-22.
Davis’ DiGiulio and Bollinger co-lead their team with seven singles wins while DiGiulio has combined with Taheri for a team-leading five doubles victories.
UC San Diego (8-11, 0-1 BW) had a tough start to the conference season, dropping a shut out result to UC Davis on the road while also on a three-match overall win streak.
Last season, they got the better of the Mustangs in the Big West Championship Quarterfinals as the No. 4 seed Tritons defeated Cal Poly 4-2.
