
Women's Tennis Improves to 6-0 in Big West Play

FULLERTON, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s tennis team won four singles matches to complete a 4-3 comeback victory at Cal State Fullerton on Friday, improving to 6-0 in Big West play.
It marked the third straight match the No. 73-ranked Mustangs lost the doubles point and found a way to win the dual.
The Titans (12-6, 5-2 Big West) won at No. 1 and No. 3 to secure the doubles point.
In singles play, Cal Poly was able to quickly take a 2-1 lead thanks to some dominant performances by senior Kennedy Buntrock and junior Candela Aparisi. First, Aparisi coasted to a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3, earning her fourth straight victory and improving to 10-7 this season. Buntrock rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1, improving to 10-5 on the year and moving into a tie for ninth in program history in career dual singles victories with her 43rd.
Senior Sarah MacCallum gave the Mustangs a 3-1 lead and put them on the brink of clinching the dual with a comeback victory at No. 6. After dropping the first set 2-6, she won the second 6-2 and the third 6-1 to remain a perfect 6-0 in Big West matches this year.
Junior Natalie Lynch dropped a hard-fought three-set match at No. 5, allowing CSUF to make it 3-2 in favor of the Mustangs.
Then sophomore Jessica MacCallum stepped up and delivered the dual victory for the Mustangs, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2. Senior Alexandra Ozerets, the Division I school record holder in dual singles wins, wrapped up the match by coming up short in a battle at No. 4. Her comeback attempt fell just short, losing 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 5-7.
With the win, Cal Poly (11-7) remained in first place in the conference standings alongside Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara, who is 5-0 in Big West play and ranked No. 43 in the country.
The Mustangs travel to UC Irvine at 11 a.m. Sunday for their final regular season road match.
