SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly Football has announced its 2026 football schedule dates and opponents.
The Mustangs’ schedule consists of nine Big Sky games and three non-conference games under first year head coach Tim Skipper. This year’s schedule has a new twist to it with the first game of the season being the Big Sky opener with Cal Poly hosting Idaho for a unique Friday, Aug. 28 game at Mustang Memorial Field Presented by French Hospital at Spanos Stadium.
With three of the first four games of the season at home, the Mustangs then play three non-conference games. They start by hosting Division II Central Washington Sept. 5 before going on the road for their lone FBS game of the season at San Jose State Sept. 12. Cal Poly wraps up its non-conference schedule at home Sept. 19 against the University of San Diego.
The Mustangs resume Big Sky play the following week on the road at Eastern Washington Sept. 26 before returning to host Weber State Oct. 3. They then go on the road for two straight weeks at Idaho State and Northern Colorado.
Another new addition to this year’s schedule is Utah Tech, who is joining the Big Sky Conference in 2026. The Mustangs will face them for the first time as conference foes Oct. 24 at home. Cal Poly then heads on the road to face the 2025 FCS National Champions Montana State Oct. 31.
The Mustangs’ home finale will be Nov. 7 against Northern Arizona before getting their lone bye week of the season. They then finish up the 2026 regular season on the road against rival UC Davis Nov. 21.
2026 will be an exciting year full of new things coming to the program. First year head coach Tim Skipper, who was hired in December, has added 39 new players to the program. Cal Poly is also about to complete construction on the John Madden Football Center which will be gamechanger for the program. The $45 million facility will be the new training and meeting center for the program and be a beacon of the legacy of Cal Poly football alum and icon John Madden.
