SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A 44-year-old school record in the women’s 4x100-meter relay was shattered, the Mustangs won 17 events and nine top-10 marks in program history were recorded as Cal Poly track and field hosted the fourth annual Mark Conover Classic on Saturday at the Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex.
Hosting its lone home meet of the season, the 50 Mustangs that competed made sure to show out as 24 personal bests were posted. Cal State Bakersfield took part in the meet along with a handful of junior colleges.
The meet was highlighted by the Mustang women breaking the 1982 school record in the 4x100 relay as Desie Armstrong, Madison Easter, Jordan Jackson and Ava Simos helped the Mustangs cross the finish line in blistering time of 44.89 seconds, surpassing the previous school record of 45.14. The time is currently the fastest ran in the Big West this season.
That performance in the 4x100 was one of nine event victories for the Cal Poly women during the meet. Isabella Rigby won the women’s discus with a lifetime best of 168 feet, 11 inches, moving her up to No. 3 in school history in the event.
Taylor Hofland continued her sensational season so far by recording an all-conditions lifetime best in the women’s shot put for the fourth straight meet. She surpassed the 15-meter mark for the first time with a toss of 49 feet, 4.25 inches to win the event — improving her No. 5 mark in school history. True freshman Golda Demby placed second in the event with a personal best of 48 feet, 2 inches, good for No. 6 on Cal Poly’s all-time list.
Grace Proudfoot recorded an outdoor personal best to capture first in the women’s high jump (5-8), Kalia Estes won the women’s 100 hurdles by .02 seconds with a PR of 14.22 seconds, Camrenne Genilla secured first in the women’s javelin with a massive lifetime best (150-9) and Ella Echsner earned first in the women’s 800 invite with a personal best (2:13.06).
Tayhlore Hoagland won the women’s long jump (19-6) and Lexi Evans, who earned Second Team All-American honors in the indoor pole vault a week ago, grabbed the top spot in the women’s pole vault (13-11.75). Astrid Teran finished runner-up in the pole vault with a lifetime best clearance of 13 feet, 7.75 inches (4.16m), the fourth best mark in school history. Madison Easter (23.87 seconds) and Jordan Jackson (24.01 seconds) placed second and third respectively in the women’s 200 with wind-aided PRs.
On the men’s side, Travis Martin stole the spotlight. Making his season debut, the 2025 Second Team All-American launched an impressive lifetime best of 239 feet, 10 inches, improving his second best mark in school history. The mark is currently the second best recorded in the nation this outdoor season and allowed him to runaway with the event title at the meet by over 20 feet.
Aiden Pastorian, a transfer from Long Beach State, had an equally impressive performance in the men’s shot put, winning the event with a lifetime best of 60-8. The mark is the second best in school history and he is now just the fifth Mustang ever to surpass the 60-foot barrier in the event.
Vincent Atilano coasted to a first-place finish in the men’s 400 hurdles with a PR of 51.34 seconds, helping him climb to No. 4 in school history in the event. The time was the fastest posted by a Mustang in the event in 40 years.
Sophomore Ben Feyrer soared to new heights to win the men’s pole vault with a mark of 17 feet, 9 inches (5.41m), tied for No. 8 in school history. Caleb King took second in the event with a PR (17-1).
Nathan Fifer secured first in the men’s high jump with a PR of 6-8.75 and Taj Clark ran a personal best to win the men’s invite 800 (1:51.90). Cal Poly also captured first in the men’s 4x400 relay (3:14.48) and the defending Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week Conrad Bernstein was victorious in the men’s javelin (207-4) to round out the event winners on the men’s side.
Cal Poly heads to the Fresno area next week to compete in the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State on March 27-28.
