Devaney Captures 2 Titles at Irish Senior Nationals

DUBLIN, Ireland — Rory Devaney, who will be entering his fifth and final season on the Cal Poly track and field team this upcoming spring, captured a pair of titles at the Irish Senior National Championships on Sunday at Morton Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.
First, Devaney won the men’s hammer throw at Irish Nationals with a mark of 71.86 meters (235 feet, 9 inches) on his fifth attempt. Then the 2022 San Luis Obispo High grad capped the meet by placing first in the men’s discus with a mark of 53.96 meters (177 feet) on his sixth and final attempt.
It was Devaney’s first time competing at the Irish Nationals. Devaney redshirted during the 2026 track season for the Mustangs after suffering a season-ending injury in the fall. In 2025, the three-time All-Big West honoree in the men’s hammer throw recorded a lifetime best in the event to place fifth at the NCAA Championships and earn First Team All-American honors, at the time, becoming the first Mustang in 14 years to secure a First Team All-American finish in a field event.
Devaney is the school record holder in the men’s discus and ranks No. 2 all-time in the men’s hammer throw.
