
Mustangs Continue Homestand Hosting Boise State Friday, Saint Mary's Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s tennis team continues its five-match homestand this week, hosting a pair of matches at the Ronca Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (1-2) take on defending Mountain West champion Boise State (3-2) first at noon Friday before capping the weekend on Sunday with a 2 p.m. showdown against Saint Mary’s (1-1).

Cal Poly is fresh off earning its first victory of the season, taking down conference rival UC Davis 6-1 in its Big West and home opener this past Sunday at the Ronca Tennis Cener.
In the dual, the Mustangs won at all three spots in doubles in a dominant showing before winning five singles matches, including three in straight sets. Kennedy Buntrock, Candela Aparisi, Alexandra Ozerets, Natalie Lynch and Sarah MacCallum all won singles matches in the dual.
Buntrock, who is playing at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles, has been the Mustangs’ best player so far this season. The Henderson, Nevada native is still undefeated in singles (3-0) and is 2-1 in doubles while playing alongside Jessica MacCallum.
Friday will mark the third all-time meeting between the Mustangs and Broncos with Cal Poly dropping the previous two matchups in 1995 and 1996. Boise State enters Friday’s contest on a two-match winning streak, defeating Montana State 6-1 and Santa Clara 7-0 this past weekend in Boise. The Broncos went 20-6 last season and earned the team’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 15 years by capturing the Mountain West Championship. Boise State beat No. 22 Baylor 4-3 in the NCAA First Round before falling to No. 14 Texas 4-0 in the Second Round, finishing the year ranked No. 54 in the country.
Saint Mary’s is 1-1 this season and Sunday’s match will mark the first between the two programs in 11 years with the Gaels winning the last matchup 6-1 on Feb. 4, 2015. Cal Poly is 6-10 all-time against Saint Mary’s.
Following this weekend’s action, Cal Poly finishes off its five-match homestand by hosting a doubleheader against UC Riverside and Fresno State on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
