SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Highlighted by hosting an exhibition match in Santa Maria, the Cal Poly women’s soccer program recently announced its full offseason exhibition schedule.
The slate of six scrimmages is highlighted by three at home, including an exhibition against Division II Westmont that will be hosted at CMT Ranch in Santa Maria.
“After winning the Big West title this past season,” Cal Poly women’s soccer head coach Bernardo Silva said, “we set out as a staff to put together an offseason scrimmage slate that would challenge our group as we build a new team dynamic with our returning players and our mid-year transfers. We can’t wait to be back playing games in front of our fans soon and we are looking forward to all the challenges and growth opportunities ahead for Cal Poly 2.0.”
The first two exhibition matches for the 2025 Big West Champions will be highlighted as spotlight scrimmages for the team as they look to strengthen their relationship with not only the San Luis Obispo community, but the county as a whole. First, the Mustangs host Division II Fresno Pacific at Spanos Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. to kick off their schedule of scrimmages. Prior to the match, a coaches education clinic will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a youth clinch from 11 a.m. to noon.
Cal Poly will look to build a deeper connection with the Hispanic Community when the program hosts its first match ever at CMT Ranch in Santa Maria on Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. Prior to facing Westmont in the historic exhibition match, the Mustangs will host another coaches education clinic and youth clinic, with those taking place at 11:30 a.m. and 12-1 p.m. respectively.
“An important component for our program is to be a part of the amazing community of San Luis Obispo county, and this off-season we have put together two scrimmage dates that will accomplish exactly that,” Silva said. “Since I’ve became the head coach, I’ve always had a desire to get closer to the amazing Hispanic community in Santa Maria, and bringing our scrimmage against a top Division II program in Westmont to them will hopefully help create an incredible synergy between our program and the South County fan base.”
Cal Poly hosts its final home scrimmage this spring at the Cal Poly Upper Turf Fields on Saturday, April 11, at 1 p.m. against Fresno City College.
The Mustangs head to the LAFC Training Facility on Saturday, April 18, to take on USC at 3 p.m. followed by Division II Cal State LA at 4:45 p.m. Cal Poly wraps up its slate of spring exhibition matches at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, when they travel to Stanford, who they fell to 3-1 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament this past season while making their first appearance in the national tourney in 21 years.
“This year, we have set out to build a team that can make a run in the NCAA Tournament,” Silva said. “Scheduling spring scrimmages against national champion caliber programs in USC and Stanford to close out the offseason will help us accomplish that.”
