
Women’s Tennis Takes Down UC Davis in Home Opener

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly women’s tennis rolled in its home opener, taking down Big West foe UC Davis 6-1 Saturday at Ronca Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (1-2, 1-0 Big West) started the match off strong in doubles, winning at all three spots. Kennedy Buntrock and Jessica MacCallum got things going with a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot. Candela Aparisi and Natalie Lynch then earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot before Sarah MacCallum and Alexandra Ozerets won at the No. 3 spot 7-6(3).
In singles, Cal Poly won three of the six matches in straight sets while the other three went to third set super tiebreakers. Buntrock won at the No. 1 spot by forfeit in the second set while up 4-0 due to an injury to her opponent. Ozerets then cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot to put the Mustangs up 3-0 in the dual.
The win was later officially clinched at the No. 5 spot by Natalie Lynch, who won her match in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Also collecting wins on the day for the Mustangs in singles was Aparasi at the No. 3 spot 6-4, 4-6, 14-12. Sarah MacCallum then finished things off with a dramatic 3-6, 6-4, 13-11 win at the No. 6 spot.
Up next, the Mustangs host Boise State Friday, Feb. 6 at 12 p.m. at Ronca Tennis Center.
