
Cal Poly Opens Dual Season in San Diego Against BYU, USD

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s tennis team opens the dual portion of its season this weekend in San Diego with a pair of matches.
The Mustangs take on BYU (2-0) first at noon Saturday in a neutral-site match held at San Diego State’s Aztec Tennis Center before wrapping up the trip by facing University of San Diego (2-1) on Sunday at noon at Hogan Tennis Center.

The Cougars are 2-1 this season, earning a pair of victories over Utah Tech to open the year before suffering their first loss to San Diego on Friday at SDSU 6-1. Cal Poly is 1-2 all-time against BYU with the last meeting between the two sides occurring on Feb. 24, 2024, when the Cougars beat the Mustangs 5-2 in Fresno.
The Toreros enter Sunday’s match with a 2-1 record, opening the season with a 5-2 home win over UC San Diego before being swept 4-0 at No. 5 LSU on Jan. 19. Cal Poly and USD have met just two times previously, splitting the meetings with the last matchup taking place on Feb. 18, 2018, in San Diego.
Following the two road matches, the Mustangs return to San Luis Obispo to host their Big West and home opener against UC Davis on Sunday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m.
