
Mustangs Fall to No. 15 Cal in Season Opener

BERKELEY — Cal Poly men’s tennis suffered a 7-0 defeat to No. 15 Cal Friday in Berkeley in its season opener.
Facing a tough Golden Bears team that is now 3-0, the Mustangs had close matches in both singles and doubles. Four of the six singles matches went to three sets.
Freshman Jovan Lubbe was put at the No. 1 spot in the singles to open his collegiate career. In it, he won the first set 7-6(1) before coming up short in sets two and three.
Also falling in close three set matches was sophomore Jack Cross at the No. 4 spot, junior Sean Kamyshev at the No. 5 spot, and senior Aaron Eliscu at the No. 6 spot.
The Mustangs will be off next week before opening up the home slate on Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. at Ronca Tennis Center.
