
Defensive Spotlight: Mason Rivera

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — 2024 was a breakout season for safety Mason Rivera. He came to Cal Poly as a walk on before earning a scholarship with his strong play on the field.
Last season, he Second Team All-Big Sky honors after he led the team in tackles with 82, ranking 13th in the Big Sky. He also tied for the Big Sky lead in forced fumbles with three and was tied for the team lead in pass breakups with five and was third in tackles for loss with six.
A redshirt junior, Rivera, is entering his second year as the Mustangs’ starting strong safety and one of the leaders of the defense. So far this season, he has eight tackles.
Rivera and the rest of the defense will look to limit Western Oregon Saturday when hosting the Wolves at Mustang Memorial Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
