Mustangs Put on Dominant Performance Over UC Riverside in Home Finale

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis finished up the home portion of its schedule strong Tuesday, taking down Big West foe UC Riverside 6-1 in the home finale at Ronca Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (8-11, 2-2 Big West) started off the match with a dominant doubles performance with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Junior Aaron Eliscu and sophomore Wian Roothman started off with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. Senior Bastiaan Weststrate and sophomore Raz Haviv then clinched the point for Cal Poly with a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot.
Eliscu and Roothman are now 4-2 together in doubles this season while Weststrate and Haviv are 3-1.
In singles, Haviv got the scoring started with a quick 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot. That was followed by a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot by freshman John Cross.
The dual victory for Cal Poly was later officially clinched by sophomore Sean Kamyshev at the No. 4 spot after he earned a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot to make it 4-0.
Also collecting wins for the Mustangs were freshman Jack McGary at the No. 5 spot, a 6-2, 7-6(4) and Eliscu at the No. 6 spot, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Cal Poly will play its final three regular season matches on the road, starting Thursday at Pacific at 2 p.m.
