Cal Poly Captures 7th Straight Win, Downing Tritons 5-2

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The scorching hot Cal Poly women's tennis team continued its winning ways Friday, securing a 5-2 come-from-behind victory over UC San Diego at the Ronca Tennis Center.
After dropping the doubles point to open the dual, the 50th-ranked Mustangs rallied with five singles victories to secure their seventh straight win and improve to an impressive 16-3, tied for their third most victories in a season in Division I program history and their best record overall since going 17-7 during the 2022 season.
After starting the season 3-2, Cal Poly has won 13 out of its last 14 matches.
Facing a 1-0 deficit entering singles, junior Alexandra Ozerets made sure to make quick work of her opponent at No. 4 to level the match at 1-1, winning 6-2, 6-2. The victory allowed Ozerets to improve to 14-4 on the season and 10-2 at No. 4, and move into a tie for eighth on Cal Poly's all-time dual singles wins list with 43.
Jessica MacCallum continued her sensational freshman season, winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 to increase her winning streak to six and move to 15-3 on the season, tied for the 10th most dual singles victories in a season in program history. MacCallum has now won 15 out of her last 16 singles matches.
Senior Peyton Dunkle gave Cal Poly a 3-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 2, grabbing her seventh straight victory to move to 13-2 on the year and 12-2 at No. 2. The win allowed Dunkle to reach 50 in her career, second most in program history and one away from tying Carol Erickson's school record of 51.
Sophomore Natalie Lynch sealed the dual for the Mustangs with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 6 to improve to 13-4 and 10-3 at No. 6.
Senior Romane Mosse captured the fifth straight singles victory for Cal Poly in the dual with a comeback win at No. 3 to increase her record to 12-6 on the year. After dropping the first set 6-4, Mosse rallied to win the second set 6-3 to force a decisive 10-point tiebreaker. Mosse emerged victorious in the 10-point tiebreaker 10-8 to make it 5-1 in favor of Cal Poly.
At No. 1, junior Kennedy Buntrock battled to the bitter end, but dropped a tightly-contested match 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to No. 73 ranked Julia Haynes from UCSD.
Cal Poly hosts its final two home matches of the season next weekend at the Ronca Tennis Center. The Mustangs face Cal State Fullerton at noon on Saturday, April 12, before wrapping up their 2025 home slate on Sunday, April 13, at noon against UC Irvine.
