Mustangs Keep Rolling, Securing 8th Straight Win to Improve to 17-3

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Senior Peyton Dunkle tied the Division I program record for career singles victories as the Cal Poly women's tennis team picked up its eighth straight win on Saturday, downing Cal State Fullerton 6-1 at the Ronca Tennis Center.
In a rematch of last year's Big West Championship match, the 52nd-ranked Mustangs showed why they are the defending conference champions, winning five of the six singles matches — including four in straight sets — to cruise past the Titans (9-8, 3-4 Big West).
With the victory, Cal Poly improved to an impressive 17-3 and 6-1 in Big West play to remain in second place in the conference standings with two matches remaining in the regular season. The 17 wins matches the program's most in a season since they went 17-7 during the 2022 season and is tied for the second most in the program's Division I history.
Dunkle, sophomore Natalie Lynch and freshman Jessica MacCallum all went a perfect 2-0 across singles and doubles play to propel the Mustangs past the Titans.
Cal Poly jumped out to a 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point. Dunkle and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather silenced their opponents at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-0 to improve to 9-4 together this season. The win also allowed Dunkle to move into a tie for fifth in Division I program history for dual doubles victories with 52. Then at No. 3, Lynch and MacCallum clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph to up their winning streak to five and improve to 6-1 as a pairing.
Lynch made quick work of her opponent at the No. 6 singles spot to give Cal Poly a 2-0 advantage, winning 6-4, 6-1 to move to 14-4 on the year, 11-3 at No. 6 and 6-1 in Big West action.
CSUF got on the board with a win in straight sets at No. 1, but junior Alexandra Ozerets won her fourth straight match at the No. 4 spot to put Cal Poly on the brink of clinching the dual. Ozerets earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory to move to 15-4 on the year, currently tied for the 11th most singles victories in a season in Division I program history.
Just seconds after Ozerets' victory, Dunkle clinched the dual for the Mustangs with a straight sets win at No. 2 (6-3, 6-2) to improve to 14-2 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. The win allowed her to tie Carol Erickson (2004-07) for the most career dual singles victories in Division I program history with 51.
Senior Romane Mosse gave Cal Poly a decisive 5-1 lead with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3. She improved to 13-6 this season, 8-3 at No. 3 and 6-1 in Big West play.
MacCallum capped off the day for the Mustangs by securing a come-from-behind win at No. 5 to earn her seventh straight victory. She won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to move to 16-3 on the year, the 10th most singles victories in a season in Division I program history. MacCallum has won 16th out of her last 17 matches that have finished.
Cal Poly, who has won 14 of its last 15 matches, hosts UC Irvine at noon Sunday in its final match of the season at the Ronca Tennis Center. Following the match, the Mustangs will honor their three graduating seniors — Eliza Bates, Peyton Dunkle and Romane Mosse.
