SAN DIEGO - After finishing their regular season with a 8-14 record, Cal Poly men’s tennis is set to begin its postseason journey this Friday at the Big West Championship tournament in San Diego.
The Mustangs will first face UC San Diego on Friday at 12 p.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center. The winner of this match will advance to the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. to challenge the No. 1 UC Santa Barbara. The weekend will wrap up with the championship match beginning Sunday at 10 a.m.
Fans can keep up with the Mustangs throughout the weekend through live streaming and stats provided by the Big West Conference, with links available on the schedule page.
To conclude their regular season, the Mustangs faced a tough opponent, falling 4-0 to UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos took home the Big West regular-season title, with the Mustangs hoping for revenge this upcoming weekend.
Standout players this season included doubles team Colter Smither and Bastiaan Westrate and singles player Sean Kamyshev. Smither and Westrate contributed significantly to the Mustangs’ doubles success late in the season, while Kamyshev remained a consistent performer throughout the season.
Cal Poly aims to capture its fourth Big West Championship title and the first since 2014. The Mustangs have reached the championship match five times since then, most recently in 2021.
