Cal Poly Throttles UCR for Sixth Straight Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team continued its sensational start to the season on Friday, rolling to a commanding 7-0 victory at UC Riverside to secure its sixth straight win.
The No. 38-ranked Mustangs (9-2, 2-0 Big West) had no trouble dismantling the Highlanders (4-9, 0-3 Big West) to improve to 26-0 all-time against UCR. The shutout victory was also Cal Poly's fourth this season.
Cal Poly crushed the Highlanders in doubles play to start as the Mustangs' No. 1 and No. 2 tandems both earned 6-0 victories. First, senior Peyton Dunkle and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather won at No. 2 to move to 5-1 on the year together, then senior Romane Mosse and junior Kennedy Buntrock clinched the doubles point with their fourth consecutive win at No. 1, improving to 5-2 on the season.
The Mustangs kept things rolling in singles play, winning five matches in straight sets. Playing at the No. 5 spot for just the third time, Lynch earned a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory to move to 7-2 on the year and give Cal Poly a 2-0 lead.
Junior Alexandra Ozerets picked up her third straight victory with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 to move to 8-2 on the year, and then Mosse clinched the dual victory for the Mustangs with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, improving to 7-3.
Buntrock made it 5-0 Cal Poly with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1, and then true freshman Jessica MacCallum continued her impressive season, grabbing her ninth straight singles victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 to improve to 9-2 on the year.
Junior Sarah MacCallum completed the shutout victory for the Mustangs with a 6-0, 5-7, 10-5 win at No. 6 to move to 3-1 on the season.
Cal Poly's six-match winning streak matches its longest since securing eight straight victories during the 2022 season.
