SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Fresh off back-to-back shutout victories this past weekend, the Cal Poly women’s tennis team finishes off a four-match homestand at noon Friday against No. 69 Columbia at the Ronca Tennis Center.
Live scoring is available for the match and a link can be found above or on the Cal Poly women’s tennis schedule page.
The Mustangs, who checked in at No. 65 in the latest ITA national team rankings, secured dominant 7-0 sweeps over Santa Clara and CSUN this past weekend at home to improve to 12-3, their best start to a season since they posted a 14-3 record during the 2021 season.
Cal Poly will carry a three-match winning streak into Friday’s match with Columbia and have won nine of their last 10 matches.
The Mustangs have four players with 10 or more singles victories this season — freshman Jessica MacCallum (12-3), junior Alexandra Ozerets (11-3), sophomore Natalie Lynch (10-3) and senior Romane Mosse (10-4). MacCallum is 10-1 at the fifth spot this season and has won 12 of her last 13 singles matches.
Senior Peyton Dunkle is 9-2 in singles and 9-4 overall in doubles this season. She currently ranks fifth in Cal Poly history in career dual singles victories (46) and sixth in career dual doubles wins (51).
Dunkle, Mosse and junior Kennedy Buntrock all went a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles play across Cal Poly's two 7-0 victories this past weekend. Buntrock’s performance while playing at the No. 1 singles spot and No. 2 doubles spot allowed her to win Big West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week, becoming the first athlete in program history to win the award in back-to-back weeks.
Friday’s match will mark the first all-time meeting between Cal Poly and Columbia. The Lions, who play in the Ivy League, are 8-5 this season and saw a three-match winning streak come to an end this past Saturday with a 5-2 loss to No. 43 Rice at home.
Cal Poly heads to the island of O’ahu next week for a neutral-site match against Hawai’i Pacific on Tuesday, March 25, and a showdown at Big West foe Hawai’i on Wednesday, March 26. Both matches will start at 2 p.m. PDT.
