Cal Poly Downs UC Davis in Big West Opener for 5th Straight Win

DAVIS, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team opened Big West play on Saturday with a dominant performance, cruising to a 6-1 win at UC Davis to secure its fifth straight victory.
Senior Peyton Dunkle and freshman Jessica MacCallum both went undefeated in singles and doubles as No. 50-ranked Cal Poly improved to 8-2 this year, the team's best start since beginning the 2021 season with a 10-0 record.
Cal Poly opened the dual by capturing the doubles point. First, sisters Jessica MacCallum and Sarah MacCallum teamed up for the first time in their collegiate careers to earn a resounding 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot. Then the No. 2 tandem of Dunkle and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win to improve to 4-1 together.
The Mustangs continued to pour it on in singles, winning five matches in straight sets. Junior Alexandra Ozerets got it all started with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 4 to improve to 7-2 this year and 5-0 at the No. 4 spot.
Senior Romane Mosse gave Cal Poly a 3-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3, moving to 6-3 this season. Then Jessica MacCallum clinched the dual with her eighth straight singles victory, winning 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5 to improve to 8-2 in her true freshman season and 7-0 at the No. 5 spot.
Sophomore Natalie Lynch captured a commanding victory in straight sets at No. 6 to move to 6-2 on the year and 5-1 at the No. 6 spot.
Dunkle earned the final straight set singles victory for the Mustangs, winning 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 at No. 2 to grab her fifth straight singles win and improve to 6-1 on the season. Currently, Dunkle ranks No. 7 in Cal Poly history in career dual doubles victories (47) and is tied for seventh in career singles wins (43).
The five-dual winning streak for the Mustangs matches their longest since winning five straight during the 2023 season.
Cal Poly (8-2, 1-0 Big West) remains on the road next week, facing UC Riverside on Friday at 11 a.m. and Long Beach State at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8.
