Mustangs Close Weekend with Win Over Gonzaga

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis put on a great team effort Sunday to get a 4-1 victory at home over Gonzaga.
The Mustangs (2-3) put on a dominant performance in doubles. At the No. 3 spot, the duo of junior Aaron Eliscu and sophomore Sean Ferguson started it off with a 6-2 win. That was later followed by a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot by senior Bastiaan Weststrate and freshman John Cross.
In singles, sophomore Sean Kamyshev was just as dominant as he won his match in straight sets at the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-1. A short time later, sophomore Liam Toroman earning Cal Poly its third point of the match after winning 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot.
A little while later, Weststrate clinched the victory for the Mustangs after winning his match in straight sets at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-3. Weststrate had a phenomenal weekend, winning both of his singles and doubles matches in both of Cal Poly's matches. Weststate is off to a great start to his final collegiate season as he is now 2-1 in doubles and 4-1 in singles.
Cal Poly will now prepare to hit the road next as they travel to Los Angeles to face LMU Friday, Feb. 14 at 12 p.m. and Utah Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
