Cal Poly Men’s Tennis Falls in Close Battle with Santa Clara

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Senior Bastiaan Weststrate won his third singles match of the season and three matches went to three sets, but Cal Poly men's tennis fell in a tight battle to Santa Clara Saturday, 6-1.
The Mustangs came up just short of getting the doubles point over the Broncos. Weststrate and freshman John Cross won their match at the No. 2 doubles spot, 6-1. Santa Clara however then won at the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles spot to clinch the point.
In singles, Weststrate won his match at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-4 to cut the deficit to 2-1 after Santa Clara had won at the No. 6 spot. Weststrate is now 3-1 on the season in singles.
Despite Santa Clara winning at the other singles spots, three of those went to a third set. Those included sophomore Raz Haviv at the No. 1 spot, sophomore Sean Kamyshev at the No. 3 spot, and Cross at the No. 4 spot.
Cal Poly will get right back to action Sunday when they host Gonzaga at 11 a.m. at Ronca Tennis Center.
