
Mustang Men’s Tennis Hosts Pair of Matches This Week

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly men’s tennis is excited to host back to back matches this weekend against Santa Clara and Gonzaga at the newly renovated Ronca Tennis Center. Cal Poly will first take on the Broncos this Saturday at 2 p.m before facing the Bulldogs Sunday at 11 a.m.
Santa Clara is coming off a two win streak this spring season, beating GCU (6-1) and Menlo (7-0). Gonzaga is entering the match 2-2, losing to Washington (0-7) and Nevada (3-4).
The Mustangs fell short against NAU this past Saturday, with Senior Basstian Weststrate and Freshman Jack McGary showing tremendous heart on the court, both tallying single wins. Weststrate won his match at the No. 2 spot in comeback fashion, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to record his second win of the season. A little while later, McGary won his match at the No. 6 spot 7-6(0), 3-6, 7-6(5) to also earn his second victory of the season.
Doubles partners Rav Haviv and Sean Kamyshev secured key victories against Sacramento State (6-4) and Denver (6-3) at the No. 1 spot. The duo is eager to help seal another win for the Mustangs.
Following the Saturday and Sunday matches, Cal Poly will head to Los Angeles for two matches next week. They will take on Loyola Marymount University for a Valentine's Day match up on February 14th at 12 p.m. and the University of Utah Saturday Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
