SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s tennis program is back in action this Friday and Sunday as the Mustangs are set to host a pair of duals to continue their six-match homestand at the Ronca Tennis Center.
Cal Poly (2-1) will take on Washington State first at noon on Friday before capping off the weekend Sunday at 3 p.m. against Fresno State. Live scoring is available for both matches and links can be found on the Cal Poly women’s tennis schedule page. Make sure to follow Cal Poly women’s tennis on Instagram (@calpolywtennis) and Twitter/X (@CalPolyWTennis) for live updates throughout both matches.
Admission to all Cal Poly tennis matches is free, but this year the addition of the brand new state-of-the-art Comerford Pavilion is offering fans a unique viewing experience. This season on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), fans can purchase access to the Silva Ball Rally Alley which offers reserved seating on the second floor of the Pavilion, along with snacks and beverages. Single-match access is available to purchase for $40, while a season pass for either the men’s or women’s team is $250. Full access to both this season can be purchased for $500 HERE. Access to the Comerford Viewing Deck, located on the south side of the facility and above court 2, is free to fans at all times, and during weekday matches (Monday through Friday with some exceptions) the second floor seating at the Comerford Pavillion is also open to all fans.
Cal Poly is two weeks removed from a dominant victory over Montana State in its home opener. In that dual, the Mustangs swept all six singles matches en route to a resounding 6-1 win.
Junior Alexandra Ozerets sealed the win for the Mustangs in the battle with the Bobcats, earning the match-clinching point with a decisive straight-set singles win (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 3 spot. Ozerets has secured the match-clinching point in both of Cal Poly’s victories this season and is still undefeated on the year (2-0).
Speaking of undefeated, junior Kennedy Buntrock boasts the same perfect record as Ozerets this spring (2-0) while playing at the No. 1 singles spot. Against Montana State, Buntrock earned the final of five straight-set singles victories for the Mustangs on the day, winning 6-3, 6-1.
Senior Romane Mosse was the only Mustang that went to a third set in their singles match against the Bobcats. The Viroflay, France native rallied at the No. 2 spot and won a decisive third-set tiebreaker 10-5 to complete the singles sweep for the Mustangs.
Junior Sarah MacCallum was the only one in the lineup that went undefeated in both singles and doubles play against Montana State. She teamed up with redshirt sophomore Amy Leather for a commanding 6-1 victory in doubles at the No. 3 spot before picking up a 6-0, 6-1 singles victory at the No. 6 spot to move to 2-1 on the year.
Friday’s dual against the Cougars (6-1) will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs with Cal Poly coming up just short in the last meeting two years ago. WSU is coming off a 4-3 win at home against BYU last Friday to improve to 6-1 on the year. Last year, the Cougars posted a 10-12 overall record and lost to University of Washington 4-1 in the opening round of the Pac-12 Championships.
Fresno State currently sits at 3-1 on the year and will take on WSU in a neutral-site match at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ronca Tennis Center before facing the Mustangs on Sunday. Cal Poly dropped a 4-3 nail bitter at Fresno State last season. The Bulldogs, who suffered their first loss of the season this past Sunday at home to Sacramento State, posted a 10-13 overall record in 2024 and lost to No. 10 seed Utah State in the opening round of the Mountain West Championships.
This spring, the Mustangs are looking to build off one of their most successful seasons in program history under third-year head coach Ellie Edles Williams. Last year, the Mustangs charged through the conference tournament as the No. 5 seed to capture their second Big West Championship in program history. The triumph allowed Cal Poly to punch its ticket to the NCAA Championships for the third time in school history and first time since 2011.
Following their two matches this weekend, the Mustangs remain at home to host San Jose State next Sunday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. Prior to the match, Cal Poly will host a free kids clinic for ages 5-12 from 9-10 a.m.
