SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Hitting the road for the first time in over a month, Cal Poly women’s tennis travels to Northern California to face No. 49 Sacramento State and Big West foe UC Davis on Friday and Saturday.
The No. 50 Mustangs (6-2) take on the undefeated Hornets (7-0) first at noon Friday before traveling to Davis on Saturday at 11 a.m. for their Big West opener.

CLIMBING THE RANKINGS: Cal Poly rose to No. 50 in the latest ITA national team rankings released this week, marking the program’s highest ranking in the poll since checking in at 50th in the Feb. 16, 2022 poll. Last week, Cal Poly received its first national ranking since ending the 2024 season ranked 68th in the country.
LAST TIME ON THE COURT: Cal Poly will carry a three-match winning streak into its road trip thanks to a pair of victories at the Ronca Tennis Center this past week to cap off a six-match homestand. The Mustangs started the 2-0 weekend on the court last Friday by shutting out Gonzaga 6-0, picking up five straight-set singles victories. Cal Poly capped its homestand this past Sunday by capturing a 5-2 win over Grand Canyon to improve to 6-2 — the team’s best start to a season since beginning 2021 with a 10-0 record.
STREAKING STANGS: Freshman Jessica MacCallum is on fire, winning her last six singles matches to boast a 6-2 record on the year. She is undefeated (5-0) playing at the No. 5 spot this season. Two other Mustangs are currently on five match winning streaks — senior Romane Mosse and sophomore Natalie Lynch. Mosse is 5-2 overall and 3-0 at the No. 4 spot, while Lynch boasts a 5-1 record and is 4-0 at No. 6.
Senior Peyton Dunkle, who didn’t play singles in the Mustangs’ first three duals this season while recovering from an injury, has won her last three singles matches and is 4-1 this season, allowing her to move into a tie for ninth all-time on career dual singles victories list with 41.
PERFECT PAIR: Dunkle and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather are 3-0 together this season while playing at the No. 2 doubles spot. Dunkle is currently tied for seventh all-time in career dual doubles victories at Cal Poly with 45.
BATTLE TESTED: Cal Poly’s only two losses this season came against teams that are currently ranked, falling at No. 26 Arizona 4-0 on Jan. 20 and at home to No. 66 Fresno State 4-3 on Feb. 9. The Mustangs beat Washington State, currently ranked 39th in the country, 7-0 on Feb. 7 at the Ronca Tennis Center.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: This week’s duals will mark the Mustangs’ first matches on the road since opening their 2025 dual season in Tucson on Jan. 19-20 against NAU and Arizona.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS: Last year, Sacramento State secured its first Big Sky Conference Tournament title since 2012 to earn a berth to the NCAA Championships for the first time in 10 years and finished the year with a 20-7 overall record. The Hornets are building off that success this season, boasting a 7-0 record with notable wins over Fresno State, LMU and Cal State Fullerton. Most recently, Sacramento State swept Santa Clara 7-0 on the road. Friday will mark the first meeting between the Mustangs and Hornets since the 2022 season when Cal Poly captured a 4-0 win in San Luis Obispo.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES: UC Davis is 5-7 this season and 1-1 in Big West play, falling at UC San Diego 4-3 on Feb. 15 and defeating UC Irvine the following day 4-3. This past weekend at home, the Aggies went 2-1, losing to Oregon 4-2 and earning victories over Stanislaus State and Jessup University. Last year, Cal Poly rolled to a 6-1 win over UC Davis in San Luis Obispo. The Mustangs have emerged victorious in their last six matchups with the Aggies.
UP NEXT: Cal Poly will remain on the road next week for a pair of Big West matches at UC Riverside on Friday, March 7, and Long Beach State on Saturday, March 8.
