Cal Poly will be looking to break a four-game losing skid with a win this weekend against Idaho State. However, the Mustangs’ schedule this season ranks as the 15th hardest in all of FCS. Five of their nine games so far have been against ranked teams.
The Mustangs (3-6, 1-4 Big Sky) will now face an Idaho State team that also comes into the game with a 3-6 record. They are coming off their best win of the season, a 38-36 road victory over No. 6 UC Davis last Saturday. The Bengal offense ranks as one of the top in the Big Sky, averaging 458.6 total yards per game and 33.4 points per game.
Cal Poly leads the all-time series with Idaho State 15-10 dating back to 1937. Last season, the Bengals just edged Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo on a last second field goal, 41-38.
Cal Poly has several players playing at a very high level. Linebackers Mikey D’Amato and Kenny Olson are the top two tacklers in the Big Sky with 108 and 89 total tackles. D’Amato ranks third in the FCS in tackles while Olson ranks 12th. Offensively, senior wide receiver Michael Briscoe leads the Big Sky in receiving touchdowns with seven, which is tied for eighth in the FCS. As a team, the Mustangs rank as the 25th best passing offense in the FCS at 250.4 yards per game.
Following Saturday’s game, Cal Poly will play its final road game of the year in Flagstaff against Northern Arizona University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. PT.
