From our early evaluations with Peyton, we could see immediately his desire to compete in each and every action on the field. He’s intense in defending duels and combative in the air when attacking the ball off set pieces. These attributes translate well to the college game and we’re excited to add another top talent from California to our roster.- Oige Kennedy, Cal Poly Head Coach
SAN LUIS OBISPO – A program that prides itself on defensive principles, the Cal Poly men’s soccer team added depth to its backline recently with the addition of center back Peyton Marmion during November’s signing date period.
A Sacramento native and member of Sacramento Republic FC’s MLS NEXT program, Marmion most recently assisted the club’s U17 side to the 2025 MLS NEXT Cup semifinals before receiving a call up to the first team.
“We’re very excited to add Peyton to our group in the class of 2026,” said third-year head coach Oige Kennedy, who directed Cal Poly to a second successive Big West regular season title in 2025. “He comes to us from one of the best MLS NEXT clubs in Sac Republic who have become a factory for developing talented players for both the collegiate and professional level.

A dean’s list selection at Jesuit HS, Marmion’s father, Colm, was a soccer letterwinner at Sacramento State (1996-99) while his mother, Erin, played softball for the Hornets (1997-00). Marmion intends to major in business administration.
