SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly track and field program officially opens the outdoor portion of its 2025 season this Friday and Saturday with the UW Indoor Preview and UW Mile City at University of Washington’s Dempsey Indoor.
Across the two days of action, 30 Mustangs are set to compete. All 30 will take part in the UW Indoor Preview on Friday, while just two athletes are slated to participate in the UW Mile City on Saturday, which will feature a full day of well over 50 heats of the mile.
Competition starts at noon Friday, while heats of the mile will start at noon Saturday. Links to live results and a meet schedule can be found above and on the Cal Poly track & field schedule page. The meet can also be watched live on RunnerSpace+ with the purchase of a subscription.
The meet will mark the first of three trips to Seattle this indoor season for the Mustangs. Cal Poly is also scheduled to take part in the UW Invitational on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 and the Husky Classic on Feb. 14-15.
Some of the notable athletes set to hit the track at the Mustangs’ season-opening meet include graduate students Chase Walter (men’s 600-meter) and Corban Payne (men’s shot put), redshirt senior Aidan McCarthy (men’s 10,000), senior Travis Martin (men’s weight throw), junior Rory Devaney (men’s weight throw), and sophomores Elianah DeMange (women’s 600-meter), Kalia Estes (women’s 60-meter hurdles) and Jordan Jackson (women’s 60, 200).
On Friday, McCarthy, a 2023 First Team All-American in the men’s 800meter outdoors, is scheduled to take part in his first track meet since running a blistering school record time of 3:56.09 in the men’s mile at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 2, 2023. TeSelle is the current school record holder in both the men’s indoor 60 and 200, Payne owns the school record in the men’s indoor shot put and Devaney has the top-mark all-time in the men’s weight throw.
Last season indoors, Cal Poly impressed as the men’s team shattered or established 10 program records, and the women's squad recorded 10 new top-five marks in school history.
