SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Fifth year Travis Martin and sophomore Vincent Atilano both received Big West weekly awards for their performances this weekend at the Conover Classic, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Martin was tabbed as the Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, while Atilano earned Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors. This is the first time Cal Poly has swept the men’s Big West weekly awards since May 6, 2025.
This is the second straight week a Mustang has won the Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week award after freshman Liam Miller received the honor for the first time on March 17.
This is Atilano’s second time garnering Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week recognition, and the first time since April 29, 2025. Atilano receives the honor after running a lifetime best of 51.34 seconds in the men’s 400-meter hurdles at Saturday’s Conover Classic, the fourth fastest time in school history. The time is currently No. 2 in the Big West this season, No. 5 in the West Region and No. 10 in the NCAA, and helped him take first in the event at the meet.
Atilano also anchored Cal Poly’s 4x400-meter relay to a victory with a time of 3:14.48.
Martin is the second Mustang to be crowned Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, joining Conrad Bernstein who won it on March 10. Martin received the praise after recording a lifetime best in the men’s hammer throw in his season opener Saturday. The 2025 Second Team All-American tossed the hammer 239 feet, 10 inches (73.10 meters), improving his second best mark in school history by over 7 feet. The mark is the best in the Big West this season, first in the West Region and No. 2 in the NCAA.
This is Martin’s second time earning the award and his first since garnering the praise on April 9, 2024.
Cal Poly travels to Fresno State on Saturday to compete in the West Coast Relays hosted at Buchanan High’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
