SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — For the third straight week a Mustang has been named the Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Aidan McCarthy received the distinction from the conference office on Tuesday after a standout performance at the West Coast Relays over the weekend.
It’s the sixth time McCarthy has earned Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors during his Cal Poly career and the first time since May 13, 2025.
In his outdoor season opener, McCarthy won the men’s 800-meter at the West Coast Relays on Saturday with a time of 1:47.51, the third fastest ran in the West Region this season and currently No. 6 in Division I. McCarthy is a three-time First Team All-American and three-time Big West champion in the 800.
Cal Poly travels to the Bay Area this Friday through Saturday, sending a majority of the team to the Stanford Invitational while a handful of Mustangs will also compete in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic hosted by San Francisco State.
