
Cal Poly Opens Spring Season at Cal Winter Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s tennis team opened its spring season this Friday through Sunday at the Cal Winter Invitational.
The Mustangs battled players from No. 13 Cal and Saint Mary’s in singles and doubles action at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts.
While facing some stiff competition, sophomore Natalie Lynch led the way for the Mustangs, posting a 2-1 record in singles play across the three-day tournament. Lynch outlasted Saint Mary’s Stefanie Silva on the opening day to earn a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory and then grabbed a win in straight sets on Saturday over Cal’s Cami Brown, 6-4, 6-3.
Lynch picked up a doubles win on Saturday as well while playing alongside freshman Jessica MacCallum. The duo grabbed a dominant 6-1 win over Saint Mary’s Stefanie Silva and MiaAngelina Ruja. Senior Romane Mosse and junior Kennedy Buntrock also teamed up for a doubles victory Saturday, winning 7-6 (8-6) over Cal’s Jessica Alsola and Berta Passola Folch.
On Friday, junior Sarah MacCallum and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather secured a 7-5 doubles victory, defeating a Saint Mary’s pairing. Jessica MacCallum captured a straight-set singles victory over Cal’s Sophie Hernandez during the tourney’s opening day, 6-2, 6-1, while junior Alexandra Ozerets grabbed a straight-set singles win Saturday, 6-3, 7-5.
Cal Poly opens the dual portion of its season next weekend when they travel to Tucson to take on Northern Arizona in a neutral-site match on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. and Arizona on Jan. 20 at 9 a.m.
