SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Following a month of practices, Cal Poly football will conclude spring ball with its spring game showcase this Saturday.
The spring game will take place starting at 11 a.m. at Mustang Memorial Field and run until approximately 12:30. There will be four 10-minute quarters in an offense vs. defense format that will also include specialty situations like redzone, two-minute drills, and special teams contests.
Admission to it is free to everyone. Fans who attend will be able to watch players such as defensive end Elijah Ponder, an FCS All-American this past season and potential future NFL draft selection. Also back is quarterback Sam Huard, who last season set program records for single game pass completions and passing touchdowns.
Saturday also offers fans a preview of what new co-offensive coordinators Erik Meyer and Timm Rosenbach are doing with the offense as well as tight ends coach Joey Muscarella. Fans will also be able to see all the work the players have put in the weight room this offseason to get bigger and stronger thanks in part to new head football strength coach Darin Lovat.
Ponder and Huard are two of several starters who return for the Mustangs. Others include wide receivers Giancarlo Woods, Michael Briscoe, Logan Booher, Tyrece Farily-Diyem, and Evan Burkhart. Running backs Aiden Ramos, Troy Fletcher, Kendric Sanders. Offensive linemen Austin Anderson, Jasdev Banwait, Charles Lincoln, and Payson Campisano.
Other defensive starters back are safety Brian Dukes Jr., cornerbacks Xavier Oliphant, Delano Franklin, and Kai Rapolla, defensive linemen Josh Ngualafe, Mason Barbour, and Antonio Vakameilalo, and linebackers Kenny Olson, Ethan Calvert, Carson Jones, and Judaea Moon.
Saturday's scrimmage will mark Cal Poly's final official practice of the spring before returning for fall camp July 31.
