Mustangs Finish Regular Season with Road Win over UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Cal Poly men's tennis capped the regular season strong Monday, taking down UC San Diego 4-2 on the road to go into this week's Big West Championship with good momentum.
The Mustangs (9-9, 4-2 BW) took the doubles point from the Tritons to start the dual. Cal Poly's No. 2 pair of Raz Haviv and Sean Kamyshev won their match 6-3. The No. 3 duo of Noah Berry and Joe Leather then clinched the point after winning their match in a tiebreaker 7-6.
In singles, Leather gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead after he won his match at the No. 2 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Bastiaan Weststrate then came back to win his match in three sets after dropping the first, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 which gave the Mustangs a 3-1 lead.
Sean Kamyshev later clinched the dual for Cal Poly after he won at the No. 6 spot 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Kamyshev is now 10-6 in his freshman campaign which leads the team in wins.
After another strong year, the Mustangs finish the regular season third in the Big West standings. They will head into this week's Big West Championship as the No. 3 seed and will face UC Riverside in the quarterfinals on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
The winner will move on to face No. 2 seed UC Irvine Saturday at 10 a.m. in the semifinals. The championship match will be Sunday at 10 a.m.
